P.C.C. Launches Online Survey System, Hopes to Reach 400,000 Belizeans

Anthony Chanona

In tandem with today’s national high school debate, the P.C.C. launched its national online survey. The commission hopes to reach a total of four hundred thousand Belizeans through the online survey. The responses will play an important role in the P.C.C.’s recommendations to the Government of Belize. Chairman Chanona told us more.

Anthony Chanona, Chairman, People’s Constitution Commission

“The survey is designed to reach all the way into the Diaspora. It is an important exercise. It was important we used this backdrop of constitutional awareness and so we are hoping to target four hundred thousand Belizeans and those in the diaspora for them to participate and respond to the survey.”

“I believe it is only about seven months left until the report is suppose to come out. Some commissioners have expressed they don’t believe you will be able to meet that timeline because of all these obstacles you will have to overcome.”

Anthony Chanona

“That is a fair statement. The commissioners in its plenary session on October fourth will discuss it. The backlog and delays have come at a cost of time. I have come to resolve to this position; constitutional reviews cannot be politically expedited. There are processes that take time to manage and if we need to have an additional extension of time we are going to ask for it.”
