ComPol Williams Also Confirms Device to be a Flare
This morning, we also heard from Commissioner of Police Chester Williams who spoke on the incident from the perspective of the Belize Police Department. He also confirmed that further analysis proved the device to be a flare.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“I was away and I was briefed that there was some explosive device that was found on Maya Airlines and the person who found it turned it into the cargo section of that local airline. Subsequent to that, an investigation team was put in place, the BDF bomb expert was called, he retrieved the equipment and he did a preliminary assessment of it. And based on his preliminary assessment, I believe he came to the conclusion that it was an explosive of a high nature. Subsequent to that we had requested that a further check be done and the bomb expert did conduct further analysis of that piece of device that was found. And having done more in-depth analysis, it turned out that it was not as it was previously reported, some high explosive used to do quarry, but rather just a flare or something of that sort.”
