Embattled Attorney Oscar Selgado Resigns as Chair of LAC
Today, embattled attorney, Oscar Selgado, resigned as chair of the Labour Advisory Committee. A letter from the Ministry of Labour to Selgado notes that the ministry has accepted the resignation. The Ministry of Labour expressed gratitude to Selgado for his service as chair of the board. As we have reported, Selgado is currently on trial in the High Court for abetment to commit murder. He is accused of contracting a Belize City man to kill a woman who reportedly filed a complaint of sexual assault against him before the General Legal Council. The alleged assault incident reportedly dates back to 2013. Selgado was scheduled to appear before the General Legal Council in March of 2019, but that hearing reportedly never occured. So, did the ministry not do its due diligence when Selgado was selected to chair the board? We will have to ask the Minister of Labour, Oscar Requeña when we get a chance to speak with him.
