Julius Reads Letter that Got Faber in Trouble with His Party Leader

Julius Espat

The Leader of the Opposition has been given until the end of the month to apologize to Speaker of the House, Valerie Woods. Back in August, Barrow wrote the Speaker of the House after his no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister was rejected. In that letter, Barrow referred to the speaker as a quote, “waste of time Speaker of the House”. The Constitution and Foreign Affairs Committee met on Wednesday to deliberate the nature of Barrow’s comments. The committee, in that meeting, agreed that the Leader of the Opposition should apologize to Speaker Woods. As we have been reporting, Patrick Faber, the U.D.P.’s Area Representative for Collet, wrote to the committee distancing himself from the comments of his party leader.  Today, chairman of the committee, Julius Espat, read Faber’s letter to the committee inside the House.

“As a member of the opposition I wish to formally distance me from the comments made by the Leader of the Opposition, Honorable Dr Moses Shyne Barrow. I would have removed the doctor by the way, in the letter dated tenth of August 2023. You are going to be a doctor but he is not a doctor. They say people that get that kind of doctorate degree should not put it in their description. If there are genuine concerns or a disagreement regarding the procedures in the house they ought to be communicated in a manner that is both constructive and respectful? The nature of the letter from the leader of the opposition is neither. The recommendation is for an apology. But what does it mean when one give an apology? This might help the leader of the opposition and hopefully it does. Apology helps us to move past our anger and helps us to be not be stuck in past. Offering an apology implies that they have hurt another person in some way and elicits a feeling of shame. We understand, we are human being, we make mistake, you have to acknowledge your mistakes.”
