Today, when the media caught up with Freetown area representative Francis Fonseca, we asked him to confirm whether he will be contesting the next general elections. There has been information to suggest that the veteran politician, who has led that division for five consecutive terms, is stepping down. Well he confirms that it is something that he is considering after twenty years in politics.
Francis Fonseca, Area Representative
“I haven’t made any decision as yet, I haven’t made any decision, but it is no secret. I think the last time was on Uncut, Jules asked me about this and I said to him very frankly and openly that the last time I ran, I really said to the people of Freetown that that would be my last time running. I have been doing this for twenty years now, twenty years this year. I have been elected five times by the people of Freetown. I continue to enjoy their support and confidence, but at some point you have to move on. But I haven’t made a final decision yet. Obviously that’s something I have to discuss with the party and the prime minister and the leader of the party. So I will do that in the months ahead and make a final decision in good due time.”
