San Pedro Town Council Installing Better Lighting in Expanded Areas
Sunday night’s triple murder in the San Pedrito area of San Pedro happened at a location where the lighting is poor at night and the killers took advantage of that condition, as well as the mangroves nearby in an attempt to conceal their identities. Lighting in some neighborhoods is an issue that the San Pedro Town Council has been addressing over the past year. Mayor Wally Nunez told News Five that while the council has already installed street lights in a number of the communities, there are others that may also need, as the island continues to expand. Nunez invites residents in those areas to notify the town council so that the lighting situation could be addressed.

“We have done a lot of work with respect to lighting, but there are certain areas that, you know, you don’t reach out to those areas until somebody tells you, well, we need a light here. We need a light here, you know, and it’s, it’s unfortunate, but it’s, it’s something that it’s difficult to get to all these areas at the same time, you know. Sometimes there is a light in the area, but one of the bulbs or something [is] burnt out. And then people need to report because on the post it has a number so that we can get to it. If there are some areas that people will request lighting to us, we try our best to get it done as quickly as possible because we know that there are some areas that do need the lighting. It would be good to get that feedback from the people and the residents so that we can get to those places.”
