Commissioner Says Relative or Not, Everyone Will Face Consequences

Police reported today that on Tuesday night around seven-thirty, while they were conducting patrols in the Wilson Street area of Belize City, they saw four persons walking on the street and stopped and searched them. The search of nineteen-year-old Erak King, eighteen-year-old Jadaey Williams, and two minors, aged seventeen and sixteen, yielded nothing incriminating.  But in a knapsack that Williams was carrying, police found a prohibited point forty-five handgun. The Highpoint brand JHP firearm had in three live rounds. All the youths have been detained and today, the police clarified that the one who carried the weapon, while she is from the Commissioner’s home village of Seine Bight and bears the same last name as him, is not his relative. Commissioner Williams, who has been in a two-day conference, said he had not checked to see if the young woman is his relative but that even if she was, she would have gotten no special treatment for carrying a prohibited firearm.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“Forty-five calibers are prohibited weapons and so it’s a prohibited weapon. Yes, it is extremely dangerous – a dangerous weapon, and I’m happy that the police were able to remove it off the streets before they could have done anything with it could have done anything with it.”

“We understand that there was a group of four persons detained and one of them was apparently your niece?”

“I was asked that question this morning and honestly I have not been able to check. I know that the person in whose bag the gun was found is a Williams and is from Seine Bight. I have been busy here; I’ve not been able to check, but it could be my brother’s daughter or son. I didn’t even know it was a girl; I thought it was a boy, but they’re saying it’s a girl so if that is the case, it may be the daughter of my brother but my people know me. They’re not going to call me. So if that is what you want to ask, it doesn’t matter. If she was found with a gun, then she’s going to face the consequences of that.”
