MIDH Establishes Teams to Look After Screw Pump Hiccup

Rolando Chan

According to Chan, the pumping station is capable of fully functioning, despite two screw pumps being defected.

“Does this affect in any way the operation at the pump station considering the weather that we are receiving?”

Rolando Chan, Project Management Unit, MIDH

“The analysis that was done from M&K, M&K is the consulting company that did the study.  With two screw pumps we are okay.  The third one, let’s say would be a backup and the fourth, the third and fourth is practically a backup.  But with two pumps, we are sure that we can, I would say reduce flood if necessary, in terms of dropping the steel gates and starting with these two screws.  So I don’t foresee any problems in terms of having only two screw pumps.  We are certain that we can deliver with two pumps at the moment.  Of course, we know that there is bad weather but that’s why we are also monitoring.  We have a team, MIDH already confirmed a team, mechanical section, three persons and an electric person from our ministry and, as well, another person a manager.  Theses five or six persons confirms that team and they are the ones liaising directly with the contractor and also liaising with the Belize City Council to ensure that we all have that communication and ensuring that everything is in order.”
