Former AG Godfrey Smith says Israel Breaking Laws of War
Joining Shoman was Senior Counsel Godfrey Smith, who has served as Belize’s Attorney General and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Smith and Shoman shared their views on the Israel-Hamas war. As we mentioned, Belize, like many other countries and organizations, is calling for a humanitarian ceasefire. Thousands of Palestinians, including children, have been killed by Israel’s bombings. Smith says that Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to fail to abide by the laws of war.
Godfrey Smith SC, Former Attorney General
“There are two situations. There’s floating of International law. There are dozens of United Nations resolutions condemning Israel on a number of different things, including the wall that you just mentioned, advisory opinions coming out of the International Court of Justice which are just simply ignored. There are laws of war which you just mentioned, humanitarian laws so that it is a crime to target civilians. I think that is the most abominable thing for them to say ‘well Hamas has networks of tunnels underneath hospitals, schools, relief places and we’re going to bomb it’. That is completely against the laws of war.”
