Keon Straughan is Remanded for Ammunition Offense
Nineteen-year-old Keon Straughan appeared unrepresented before the lower court this morning where he was arraigned on a single charge of kept ammunition without being granted a gun license by the Commissioner of Police. It is alleged that on Monday, Straughan, a resident of Allan Pitts Crescent, was busted while on Caesar Ridge Road with nine Lugar brand nine millimeter hollow-point and one Aguila brand rounds of ammunition. In court earlier today, Straughan pleaded not guilty to the charge, before blurting out that he was allegedly framed by police. Due to the nature of the offense which falls under the firearms act, bail was denied and he was remanded at the Belize Central Prison until January eighth, 2024. In 2022, Straughan was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, an offense that is pending trial before the court.
