Police Say Verbal Dispute Led to Murder of Leslie Verde
On Tuesday, forty-four-year-old Juan Carlos Novelo was taken into police custody where he was later arraigned in the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court for the crime of murder. The charge was brought against Novelo following a deadly encounter in Caye Caulker that claimed the life of his common-law wife, Leslie Verde. ACP Hilberto Romero tells us more.

“On Saturday, November 4th, 2023, police visited a room at a house at Caye Caulker Village where they found the lifeless body of a female identified as Leslie Verde. She was observed with injuries to the neck area. She was taken to the clinic where she was pronounced dead on arrival. A thorough investigation was conducted into the matter which led to the arrest of Juan Novelo, forty-four years, who is her common-law husband and he was charged for the crime of murder. A follow-up investigation is being carried out at this time. The report we got is that they got into a verbal dispute after she came from being out early in the morning and thereafter her body was found.”
