Brawl Breaks Out at Football Match
All hell broke loose on Friday night during a football match in Belmopan. It happened at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium, and videos of the chaos have been making the rounds on social media all weekend. This is not the first time that a fight breaks out at a sporting event, and it might not be the last. Fights at football matches are becoming more common and violent. This weekend’s incident caught the attention of Police Commissioner Chester Williams, who has given orders for investigators to find and charge all those involved.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“I am extremely disappointed and annoyed about that incident in Belmopan. And I can say that upon seeing that video footage the next day, I instructed the police to ensure that all those persons involved are identified and arrested and charged. It cannot be that we have people go to these public events and behave in such a way that they create some level of unsafe on the part of the attendees of these events. And when it comes to organizers, yes those persons organizing these football games and other public events need to ensure that they have adequate police security at these events to avoid things that some occurring. From what have been made to understand they only had about four police officers working that huge basketball game, football game, which I find to be very inappropriate. So I have instructed the OCs across the country to ensure that whenever we have these types of events, that we have adequate security and the organizers will have to pay.”
