Shyne Barrow: I have No Problem with Boledo Managers

The government announced earlier this month that it will resume the Boledo and Jackpot Lottery on December first, after having identified the two companies managing the games of chance. The agents are Nando’s Wholesale Limited, which will manage the Belize District and MGM Entertainment Limited which will manage the games for the Corozal, Orange Walk, Cayo, Stann Creek and Toledo districts. When he met with the media, Leader of the Opposition, Moses Shyne Barrow said he has no problem with the two companies managing the games.

“I have no difficulty with the current – the only thing – I did hear that Nando was a member of the lotteries commission. I had heard that.”

Not true.

“But you say it’s not true. I have not turned up any concrete evidence, but so other than that, I have no difficulty with either of the two people are companies that will be managing it. It is just a shame that we’ve lost millions and millions and millions of dollars over the last couple of months because the senior administration had no plan, had no transition, no vision as to what they would do. I know that you had mentioned something that the two people that got it got it by default. I’m not sure about that because I know some businessmen that had put a plan together. They said they spent a couple hundred thousand dollars to put a plan together to show the Government of Belize how they would manage it to everybody’s benefit and they were turned down. But I have no difficulty with the companies that are managing it. I just hope that unlike everything else that the government has taken custody of and has been charged with managing, I just hope they don’t find a way to wreck it and they don’t find a way to deprive the Belizean people of the benefit, right? I do hope that the money goes where they said it would go, which is, uh, sporting, which is the public health facilities. I look forward to that. I truly do.”
