Belize Kriol Project Calendar for 2010
The Belize Kriol Project has introduced its 2010 calendar and this year it features remedies called “Ting Fi Mek Wi Geh Betta”. It contains traditional remedies, an index of Kriol terms and special events. Each month is dedicated to a particular ailment and its remedy. Secretary of the Kriol Projek, Sylvaana Udz says it is a must-buy.

“Garlic, aloe vera, ginger featured very much eena di recipes fi tings like bumpy face, acne and pimples and so; dandruff, hard bonk—I think dat dah fi July—and fi other complaints like burn, heat eena yoh body and things like dat. So how wi get den yah? Well, we ask round lotta older people, grannies. Half di time people wah pull out when yoh got wah lee pain ah bellie or work bellie and dehn wah seh tek wah lee bit ah lime wid dis and dat; home remedies. Our remedies we check, dah noh just somebody write dong. We go round and we check and we check wid Creole people; people who use dehn.”
Silvaana Udz, Secretary, Kriol Projek Udz says the calendar can also be used as a translation tool for teachers and students. The calendar is available for five dollars at the Image Factory, the Angelus Press, Brodies and the Bible Society. Udz says already the Kriol Projek is getting recommendation for next year’s calendar, which will feature recipes.
