Not to be left out of the conversation, Leader of the opposition, Moses “Shyne” Barrow had his own end of year review to share offer. In his message to the public, Barrow states that Belize is in a state of “disaster” and that with the help of his fellow Belizeans, he can rescue it. Here’s what he had to say.

“Belizeans are an indomitable people. Despite all of the challenges that we faced in 2023, our resilience readies us for 2024. No more misappropriation of town and city council funds. No more fighting between the prime minister, Sera representatives and mayors, deputy mayors against sitting mayors, and all at the great cost of the Belizean people’s quality of life. No more complaining about the highest cost of living ever, the highest cost of fuel ever. Corruption in the highest ranks of the police that the ComPol, his minister, nor his prime minister can or care to solve. With the illicit sale of gun license being the only new growth industry that Musa could launch. Imagine during Christmas season, we could not find sugar to have a splendid holiday time despite all of the punishment that we’ve taken all year wrong. Now we have been reduced to importing sugar only under the PUP. The UDP government will not. We will not punish farmers for their political affiliation and leave their crops to rot while importing from foreign nations. Our UDP government will overhaul our public health system and bring quality health care to Belizeans. You will not have to wait another three years and hundreds of millions of dollars misappropriated for one CAT scan that still has not been delivered. The UDP government will ensure healthcare workers have the equipment and essentials to treat our Belizeans, as well as provide access to affordable housing and transportation for all public healthcare workers. Our UDP government will ensure education for all those in need with our student financing plan, so all Belizeans, regardless of class, gender or ethnicity, Can achieve the Belizean dream with hard work and determination. Only your imagination will be your obstacle. Only your relentless pursuit of the Belizean dreams can stop you from accomplishing the Belizean dreams.”
