Murder Count Below 100 says Police Commissioner

Chester Williams

The long Christmas weekend recorded three murders. This, according to Police Commissioner Chester Williams, threw a monkey wrench into department’s statistics. Williams says that so far the murder count is currently below the one hundred mark. But, the year is not yet over and so, the department is working to ensure maximum safety and crime prevention as we enter 2024.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“I was a bit more optimistic that the figure would have been less than it currently is but you know, at the end of the last weekend, we had  three murders over the Christmas holiday. That certainly threw a monkey wrench into our statistics. Nonetheless, the decrease that we’re seeing this year is still far more significant than we have seen. In other years, we should be closing off the year with a murder count south of the 100 number mark. And, that for us is a great achievement. But while we do see it as a great achievement, we are still saddened of the loss of lives. All those persons who died in 2023. People are still left grieving, and so every murder that do occur is a tremendous loss to society. But as a department, we will continue to do our utmost best to see what we can do with the support of our partner agencies to continue to save lives.”
