Accused Rapist Rupert Codd Attempts to Escape from Police Custody
Twenty-three-year-old Rupert Codd attempted a dash for freedom after being arraigned earlier today in the magistrate’s court for the sexual assault of a woman. At 2:30 this afternoon, Codd was escorted to Courtroom Number Five where he was read a single charge of sexual assault upon a forty-one-year-old woman. It is alleged that he groped the woman on Sunday morning while she was walking in the vicinity of the taxi stand near San Cas Plaza. According to the victim, she was dragged off the sidewalk, taken behind a green zinc house and sexually assaulted. Prosecutor Alifah Elrington objected to bail being granted to the accused on grounds that he is indebted to the court for over three thousand dollars, for a previous matter involving that also involved the alleged rape of another woman in the area of the overpass near Pallotti High School. Upon being denied bail, Codd attempted to flee from custody but reportedly ran into a swarm of police officers at the front of the court building on Coney Drive. He put up a fight, but was defeated and returned to the holding cell. It is expected that he will subsequently be charged for attempting to escape from lawful custody.
