A Jamaican National is Shot in Alley off Mayflower Street
A Jamaican national, who migrated to Belize recently, remains hospitalized at the K.H.M.H. after coming under gunfire in an alley off Mayflower Street on Monday night. Thirty-year-old Theodore Dwyer was sitting on a chair near a basketball court sometime before eight o’clock when a trio of men emerged from an unlit area of the neighborhood and let loose a hail of bullets in Dwyer’s direction. The unsuspecting mason was struck multiple times and remains in a critical condition. It is believed that Dwyer, who is not known to residents as being gang affiliated, was targeted by rival gang members in the area. The shooting occurred a short distance away from a police checkpoint that has been established on Vernon Street.
