Police Awaiting Instructions from DPP on Rape Case

Chester Williams

ComPol Williams told the media this afternoon that the initial report was made after one of the alleged victims told her boyfriend what had taken place overnight.  He also says that the police department is awaiting instructions from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions on how to proceed with the matter.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“According to them, while they were at the house the night drinking, they began to become intimate and that intimacy led to him having sexual intercourse with them against their will.  The next morning when they went home, the one who is from Belize City told her boyfriend what transpired and he told her to report the matter to the police.  According to their allegation, the incident took place on Thursday night and they came in to report it on Saturday during the day.  So we have, to some extent, put together a file.  The attorney was brought in yesterday by the police to be interviewed.  He partook in the interview and so we are sending the statements and his interview to the Director of Public Prosecutions and we are hoping that between today and tomorrow we should be getting feedback from the DPP providing guidance in terms of how we may proceed with the matter.”

“Can you say if there was any medical examination of either female?”

Chester Williams

“Yes, that was done. Both of them.”
