Bridge to Sarteneja to Be Completed Next Month
The infrastructural upgrade at the portion of road and the river crossings near Sarteneja are progressing along as planned, with Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing officials estimating that about ninety percent of the work on one of the new bridges is completed. Today, Chief Engineer, Evondale Moody explained to News Five that by February, people traveling to Sartaneja should be able to drive over a new bridge at Laguna Seca.

“That project is a fairly large project as well. It’s approximately 43 kilometers in length. That project has been financed through a loan from Taiwan, and a contract value for that project is $50 million U.S. That project is expected to be completed later this year – I would say maybe within the third quarter of 2024. It involves the upgrading of the entire starting a road from Corozal crossing the two ferries, which are Laguna Seca and Pueblo Nuevo and then terminating in Sartaneja. As I said, it’s approximately 43 kilometers. To date, we have completed 20 kilometers of paving for that road. So it’s approximately around 50 percent in terms of pavement itself. But overall construction is about 65%, the reason being is that because of the two bridges, starting with Laguna Seca, which is nearer to Sartaneja, that bridge is 100 percent completed.”
