“Boots” and Willoughby teaming Up in Port to Recall Usher?
Leader of the Opposition, Moses “Shyne” Barrow says former Port Loyola Area Representative Anthony “Boots” Martinez enjoys his support in the attempt to recall sitting area representative Gilroy Usher. As we reported last week, Martinez delivered over one thousand, seven hundred signatures to Governor General Froyla Tzalam requesting the recall. The petition to trigger a recall mechanism requires thirty percent of voters, or one thousand, four hundred and eighty signatures, from the constituency. Once successful, a bye-election would be held. But, “Boots” Martinez would not be the candidate to contest Usher under the U.D.P.’s banner. According to Barrow, the party already has a standard bearer in Port Loyola. That is Phillip Willoughby.

“We have all of our candidates. We certainly have a candidate for Port Loyola. And that is unequivocally, undoubtedly, Phillip Willoughby. And, brother Martinez, the former minister, is working with Phillip to help us deliver in the municipal elections. And, to me the driving motive, the driving factors behind this recall is just that a former minister of area representative that sees how deplorable the performance of the current area representative is and how his people that he served for so long, I think he is a four term area representative, are suffering. And, this area representative, Mr. Gilroy Usher does not deserve to represent the people of Port Loyola. I commend him for it. I wanted to do the same thing in Belize Rural South, I wanted to recall Andre Perez. I wish I had more Boots Martinez on the team that was prepared to take these actions and hold these PUP area reps to account.”
