Andre Perez: “My People Is What is Important to Me”
In fact, Perez said that not having his portfolio has afforded him quality time with the people that put him in office in the first place – that is the electorate of Belize Rural South. He said that he has spent the past several months engaging with the people, whose support he believes he still enjoys.
Andre Perez, Area Representative, Belize Rural South
“I was elected as to serve Belize as well. So first and foremost, I am the area representative, and I take that very much seriously, and every day I can tell you for the past few months, even before Christmas, I’ve taken more focus as an area rep, visiting Caye Caulker, especially around the Christmastime. We were spending time there, walking the streets. That’s what I’m doing right now. And every evening we have a traffic problem, so my golf cart is sent home and I walk from my office to home every day, speaking to the people, listening to their concerns. At times it takes me over an hour and a half to get to home, but it’s for a good reason. It’s [me] re-engaging with the people, and I’m confident that the people here understand that they made the right choice in electing me as their representative. I’m starting for our elections. I’m ready for it and prepared, and feeling the pulse of the people is the most important thing.”
