Coming Soon, Night Time Highway Patrols
Commercial bus operators will have to adhere to the regulation that prohibits overcrowding very shortly. Today, Minister of Transport, Rodwell Ferguson explained that as part of the upgrade to the bus industry, aside from acquiring new buses, the bus companies will also have to exercise proper rules of the road. Ferguson said that the Transport Department will work along with the police for highway patrols even at night.

“In the month of December, more people travelled across the country, and so we had enough buses, so we gave instructions to say allow the buses to overload until the 4th of January. After the 4th of January, we’ll go back to normal, so buses should not be overloading now as I speak.”

“And are there adequate patrols on the streets – on the roads to ensure that this doesn’t occur?
Rodwell Ferguson
“What I noticed with our traffic officers, they will have a checkpoint at a certain location, so I had a meeting with the Commissioner of Police last month. I said I want to have collaboration between Transport and the Police to do night patrols likewise, so in the oncoming weeks, you’ll see patrols on the highway.”
