B.D.F. Celebrates 45th Anniversary

This evening, the Belize Defense Force held a ceremony on its parade square at Price Barracks for a march pass, physical fitness display and distribution of awards on the occasion of its forty-sixth anniversary. The anniversary is celebrated with the theme: Defending Our Nation: Forty-Six Years of Commitment and Courage. During the event, awards were given to six soldiers and officers for long service and six others received for outstanding service. The Minister of the Public Service, Henry Charles Usher, told the soldiers that their service rendered over the years has done Belize well.

“You have stood firm and inspired us all. As we celebrate this 46th anniversary, let us also celebrate the victories achieved, large and small. Belize is lauded as a “tranquil haven of democracy,” but these freedoms that we hold dear could not have been achieved without sacrifice, without the selfless dedication of each and every one of you. Patriotism forms the bedrock of the Belize Defense Force, and it starts with upholding promises to our citizens, government, and fellow service personnel. For me, there are four basic tenets or pillars of patriotism: one, loving your country; two, identifying with the values of your country; three, being concerned about the future of your country.”
