Where is Corozal Taxi Driver, Rosalito Pacheco?
Today marks day five since Corozal taxi driver, Rosalito Pacheco has gone missing. The fifty-seven-year-old was last seen driving from in front of a supermarket where he had made his place of business for about two decades. Last Wednesday morning, Pacheco apparently received a phone call and left that location. That was the last time he was seen. Since then, his family and fellow taxi drivers have been combing different areas of Corozal in a desperate attempt to locate him, but without luck. Calls to his cell phone have also gone unanswered. News Five’s Marion Ali went north today looking for clues and filed this report.

This was the last known location where fifty-seven-year-old Rosalito Pacheco was sitting in his parked taxi car last Wednesday morning. He is believed to have received a phone call and drove off to a destination that the police, his family or co-taxi drivers are unaware of.

“Do police suspect that he’s been killed?”
A.C.P Hilberto Romero
“Again, we are following several leads, but so far, nothing has turned up.”
According to A.C.P Hilberto Romero, there is no concrete evidence to suggest at this point that Pacheco has become a victim of foul play. And the taxi driver’s family members in San Joaquin Village are hoping that he will return home safe. His sister, Adelaide Pacheco, too distraught to speak with us on camera, said that the morning when he left home, nothing seemed odd, until Pacheco didn’t return home for lunch or with his daughter from school.

“Wednesday morning, he left from home and he went to do his normal taxi job. Like nine o’clock he left from here. He was at Deng’s Store about 9:30, I think, and then from there – we were waiting for him so that he could come back for lunch at home, and he didn’t come, and we were still waiting with his daughter to come from school, which he normally pick up from school, 3 o’clock. And, we were waiting and then she appeared with a taxi driver. As she came home we get surprised because normally he’s the one who pick her up at school.”
Adelaide Pacheco says that on the day in question, Pacheco didn’t call home either to say that he was heading on a job out of town.

“He normally gives a call to his wife before he leaves Corozal or going to Chetumal or going to Orange Walk. He normally calls her, but she didn’t get any call that day. We are asking everybody that if they know or see something strange, if they could take pictures if they see the vehicle or his face to give us a call.”
Describe the vehicle, please.

“It’s a goldish Toyota car, it’s tinted and it has, I think it has a rosary at the front of the car.”
Pacheco’s family and fellow taxi drivers have been conducting searches in the surrounding communities in an attempt to locate the missing taxi man. That search began soon after their calls to his cell phone went unanswered later that same day. Fernando Chan and President of the Northern Runner Taxi Association, Roberto Chulim have joined in the search.

“We are trying to find him in all the cane fields and across Corozal and we are – how do I tell you – Miss, we can’t find him, but we are trying. The last time we see him, it’s right there in front of the supermarket. We check the camera, but nobody arrive. He leave from right here, but we don’t know which part he run. We only say, maybe he take one call and that’s it, because nobody get in the car on the Wednesday. He move from right here. Maybe somebody weh know him know he ker since he no call his family.”
Fernando Chan, Friend of Rosalito Pacheco
“We don’t feel safe because a lot of things happen. Corozal north right now is very hot – lotta accidents, lotta killing. Right now, I have in my mind to give the all taxi the numbers of each other and help each other to mind ourselves. When they call me, I will not go once you are a stranger. I will work with my local people. I rather things go slow and satisfy.”
The family is also appealing to the police to give them more assistance in the search for their missing loved one. They also ask anyone who has seen the gold Toyota taxi or Pacheco, to contact them at cell number: 620-2761. Pacheco has a wife and four daughters who are awaiting his return.
