Channel Five launches new and improved website

news 5 website 2010In the past twenty-hours, we introduced Channel’s News website. The look is modern, crisp and appealing to the eye. And importantly, in keeping with our commitment to constantly improve and bring you the best in programming, the new webpage offers numerous options to view our nightly newscast and other programming. There are various added features and the new trends in web design give the layout a fresh look and bring life to the stories we present. The website is a transformation from the previous and took months to put together. It is interactive, providing viewers with the opportunity to post comments or simply be in touch with us. News Five’s Delahnie Bain will walk you through our improved website.

Delahnie Bain, Reporting

If you haven’t yet then you must view Channel Five’s updated website which features upgrades in everything from presentation to functionality. And you don’t have to be a computer geek, because the new website is user friendly to navigate. But starting with the basics, the sleek new design shows the daily newscast on the home page with headline stories and corresponding images.

Another exciting change is that unlike the old website, stories uploaded to the new channel5belize.com now carry larger and sharper images for better visibility. You will also find that stories now carry more than one image to give readers a better feel of what the piece is about. There is even an option of viewing the news in images for those who don’t have enough time to read through entire stories.

But the best way to get full effect of the stories is to watch it live and if you happen to miss that, then the next best is our high quality streaming video.  This can be viewed from the embedded window on the right of the page or you can click on the Vimeo link to watch it in a larger window on Channel Five’s video page on Vimeo.com. And didn’t you just hate missing the news because the streaming video was replaced the following day? Well, on our Vimeo page you can now watch past newscasts and Open Your Eyes shows. You can also access our videos by going to vimeo.com/channel5belize.

Our search engine was one of the more essential upgrades and we now have three ways of finding past stories in our archives. Click on the calendar in the lower right area of the site where you can select the date of the newscast you wish to review. Don’t have the exact date of the report? Just above the calendar is the option to select the month you want to browse or the category. The third way is to simply use keywords in the search bar at top right of corner of the webpage. The best part is that all search results appear in chronological order from the most recently updated stories.

And to add that personal touch, readers can now post comments on the stories, videos and the site in general. Or you can find email addresses for just about everyone at Channel Five on the “Contact Us Page”.

So check out the new channel5belize.com: great new look, better features and of course… the best news. And in the near future, there will links to all your favourite Channel Five programs including Open Your Eyes, Duets and much more. I am Delahnie Bain for News Five.

Channel Five’s new website was designed by Idealab Studios.

I vote for a weekend edition…your website is great & I have always admired GB productions. However, we need to be informed and keep up with whats happening in our country and the news definitely doesn’t stop on the weekends. We cannot rely just on CNN or FOX. As it is our country already has too many holidays!!! Lets take it to another level GBTV!!!

Please follow up story on teacher/parent incident. I understand the article is lacking truth but it also deserves follow-up!! We cannot have our children be harmed by ignorant, criminal actions by undisciplined parents!! Then we wonder why the children behave the way they do these days! I should not have to be worrying that my child can be hit or hurt by such criminal behaviours of other immature adults! With such behaviour being displayed before children and going unpunished, WHAT MESSAGE ARE WE SENDING TO OUR CHILDREN?

  21. Ren*ur*friend says:

  22. macal rivera says:

Congrats on your new web site, I love the part where we can post our comments after reading your news, don’t be afraid to show all comments, this is what people think and have in mine, sometimes some comments might be too harsh or some bad words, but please understand this is our way of expressing our disatisfaction with what is happening in our community and country.

    KEPP UP THE GOOD WORK

  23. Ly says:

Great job! Thanks for the opportunity to have input on the news in Belize. Would like to see a space for comments on current concerns, especially Belizeans abroad… At present I am very concerned and apauled about the crime in Belize. It is hindering a lot of us from making that trip.

  32. Alvira Clark says:

EVERYDAY ASK FOR INFORMATION FROM THE PUBLIC. SO THAT PEOPLE CAN FILE COMPLAINTS WHEN THEY KNOW FOR A FACT THAT SOMETHING IS NOT ON THE UP AND UP. LET EVERY INTERESTED PERSON READ THESE NOTES AND ADD THEIR OWN INFORMATUION. EXAMPLE: WHEN A PERSON DOES NOT SHOW UP FOR COURT, PUT THE WORD OUT THAT THE PERSONS WHEREABOUTS NEEDS TO BE KNOWN. ASK FOR SILENT WITNESSES TO CRIME. USE A TELEPHONE TIP LINE(GET THE PHONE NUMBER OUT THERE EVERYDAY) SO PERSONS CAN CALL IN AND TELL WHAT IS KNOWN TO THEM. THE MORE INFO GOING OUT TO THE PUBLIC THE MORE YOU CAN CUT BACK ON CRIME. GET THE WORD OUT THERE THAT A TIP CAME IN FROM A WITNESS THAT “SLOPPY COP” DID IN FACT COMMIT A MURDER AND ETC. IF PEOPLE CAN FEEL SAFE TELLING THE TRUTH, THEY WILL TALK AND TELL MORE OF THE TRUTH. IS “SLOPPY COP” TRYING TO HAVE SEX WITH A 12 YEAR OLD CHILD AND ETC. DO YOU KNOW IF SLOPPY COP TOOK A BRIBE, FOR HOW MUCH FROM WHOM. CHANNEL 5 HELP THE PEOPLE, A GOOD WAY IS TO LET THEM TELL THE HIDDEN FACTS TO THE PUBLIC. YOU HAVE DECENT POLICE IN YOUR COUNTRY THAT ARE AFRAID OF THE PEOPLE THEY WORK WITH, THE ONES ON THE TAKE, A DECENT POLICEMANS LIFE IS IN DANGER FROM HIS OWN CO-WORKERS.

  33. Gilmar Guy says:

U guys do a fine job wen will we get more bze horses race on the front i miss easter race n orangewalk in may

  34. Alvira Clark says:

ARE THERE ANY PEOPLE IN THE COUNTRY OF BELIZE INTERESTED IN HELPING THE UNITED STATES CITIZEN CHILDREN BEING HELD CAPTIVE IN THE COUNTRY OF BELIZE? THE CHILDREN RETURNED TO THE COUNTRY OF BELIZE BY USE OF THE HAGUE TREATY, NEVER TO BE SEEN OR HEARD FROM AGAIN BY THEIR UNITED STATES PARENT. CHILDREN ARE BEING DENIED THEIR RIGHTS AS US CITIZEN, THE ADVANTAGES AVAILABLE TO THEM. HEALTH CARE, EDUCATION, COLLEGE, DECENT HOUSING, BALANCED DIET FOODS, AND THE LOVE OF THEIR DENIED ACCESS PARENTS. JEFFERY CLARK HAS HAD AN ON GOING PROBLEM OF ACCESS FOR NEARLY FOUR YEARS. HIS SON ADAMAS CLARK IS BEING HELD CAPTIVE IN THE VILLAGE OF PLACENCIA, BELIZE.
