The Supreme Court opened on a calm note on Monday, but the tone was much different today when the case of a gruesome murder came up for trial. While the case is already sensational, more drama was added this morning when it took almost an hour to select the twelve member jury due to clashes by attorneys for the accused. Arthur Young and Errol Haynes appeared represented by attorneys Richard “Dickie” Bradley and Hubert Elrington before Justice Michelle Arana. Arthur and Haynes are accused of stabbing Calvin Young twenty-five times on November second, 2007 in the Belama Phase one area. Calvin was reportedly in his apartment along with Arthur, Haynes, and Floyd Wade on the night of his murder. Reports are that Haynes started an argument with Calvin and later stabbed him several times with Arthur’s assistance. The DPP’s office, represented by Crown Counsel Trienia Young, called two witnesses PC Martin Rodriguez, who processed the crime scene, and Jennifer Alvarez, who lived in the apartment adjacent to Calvin’s. Alvarez claimed that she saw a man leaving Calvin’s room but could not say if it was one of the accused because she did not see his face. The prosecution, in an unprecedented move, then told the court to treat Alvarez as a hostile witness because she was not providing the necessary information. Defense attorney Dickie Bradley objected to the way Young treated her own witness and she then requested an adjournment. The case continues on Wednesday when Dr. Mario Estradabran and Calvin’s uncle, John Young, will testify.
