Though sent to prison, accused molester walks the streets

Keon "Gambis" Williams

There is another scandal brewing, this time in the Police Department, and it surrounds the mysterious release of thirty-two year old Keon Williams aka “Gambis”. Gambis was accused of sexually assaulting a fourteen year old boy in November 2009 and was charged for Committing an Unnatural Crime last Tuesday. Gambis was denied bail and was sent to Hattieville Prison until March second by Magistrate Aretha Ford because he allegedly made more than one attempt on his victim. But since his court appearance, there have been allegations that he has been spotted freely roaming the streets. This has triggered an investigation into his release since he was not granted bail by the magistrate and he never applied to the Supreme Court. So how and why was he released? The Police Department is trying to find out just that and they suspect that the two officers who were to escort Gambis to the prison bus may have had a hand in his release. It is alleged that the two officers, who are attached to the prosecutions branch, were paid off and Gambis walked free from the Queen Street Police Station. When News Five contacted Carol Tucker at the prosecution branch, she denied having any knowledge of the investigation. But the acting police press officer, Assistant Superintendent Bart Jones, was able to confirm to that the matter is being looked into.

ASP Bart Jones, Acting Police Press Officer

“The department is investigating the circumstances surrounding his release because he was remanded to the Central Prison. That entails the entire—in whose direct custody he was and who was to transport him to the prison and that kind of thing. So we are investigating that.”

Duane Moody

“Do you know how many officers are currently in jeopardy for having this person that was supposed to be remanded out?”

ASP Bart Jones

“I think any indication of the numbers of officers involved would be premature to say at this time. We will, whenever there is additional information, be passing that on.”

Duane Moody

“Sir, but how could this have happened? If the magistrate gave a direct order, were these officers—did they have the authority to go against what the magistrate has said?”

“The immediate answer is no and for that reason we are conducting an internal inquiry to find out exactly who is responsible.”

Police are now on a manhunt to get Williams back in custody. Meanwhile, the officers who are being investigated remain on duty.

  1. Michelle Buckley says:

It is very sad to read that a crime of this nature was committed and such an individual should is allowed to walk free. Where is the justice. This is where the community should step in and take a stand and sign petitions for him to be placed in jail. What if it was your son? He has destroyed this teenagers life, dreams, he will be scarred and possible adopt the same behavior studies have shown that men raped often turn around and become molestors and predators themselves I pray that God will give the teenager and his family the strength to overcome such an ordeal. The police who released him needed a heavier sentence than 2 days in jail, also his superiors should be given suspension for allowing this to happen.
