55 yr old charged with Carnal Knowledge of 8yr old

And in news from the courts, the long arms of the law have finally caught up with fifty-three year old Anthony Myvett, an unemployed man of West Street who allegedly had sex with an eight year old child. Myvette was charged with Unlawful Carnal Knowledge and Dangerous Harm when he appeared today in Magistrates’ Court. No plea was taken because the offences are indictable. The child reported that the incident occurred in February last year. She was examined by a doctor who classified the injuries she sustained as Dangerous Harm. The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the offence of carnal knowledge has become prevalent, that the complainant is a child and that the defendant might interfere with her if given bail. The prosecution also submitted that Myvett was sought by the police since November of last year and he did not make himself available until recently. In his defense, Myvett said that he did not want to go to jail which was why he was hiding from the police. He pointed out that he suffers from a chronic stomach ailment and a hernia but his plea fell on deaf ears. Magistrate Sharon Fraser upheld the objection and remanded Myvett into custody until February twenty-third.
