Armed robbers get cash from Carmen’s Takeout

But in the city, just after the rush of the lunch hour this afternoon, two thieves stormed into Carmen’s Take Out on East Canal Street. It’s a time of the day when the popular restaurant is normally packed with patrons. But fortunately, there was only one customer when the two gunmen entered the establishment at about one-thirty. She came face to face with the criminals but luckily was not harmed and nothing was taken from her because the crooks were after the proceeds from the day’s sales. An employee of Carmen’s who wished to remain anonymous, told News Five that the gunmen were swift but the loot was not as much as they expected.

“I had just finished serving a customer and when she was about to come out through the door, two gunmen came in and they had stockings over their faces and when the first one came in, he collided with the girl that was coming through the door and that’s when I saw the stockings on his face. So all I could have done was grab my mom and get her through the door. I made her fall and the gunmen they entered to the back of the restaurant and they put the gun on my aunt and they ask her where the money is and she told them it’s right there and they just grabbed the dish and they went. But they didn’t really much, they just got a lot of small change that was in the dish and they just fled the scene. They went quick, quick; they didn’t make any noise; they didn’t even say stick up or anything. They just came in silently and I was very fortunate that I saw them as they entered through the door. They held the gun on my aunt and she is kind of shaken up right now and that was basically it. It was so quick. It was like fifteen or twenty seconds and that was it; it was over.”

“Apart from the customer, who else was in there?”

“My dad was in there but the guys I guess they didn’t even see him. He was sitting in the corner so I guess they didn’t see him. so when they went to the back, my dad just came out through the door. But it was only that girl and my dad that was in there.”

“Has anything like this ever happened before at your business?”

Voice of: Employee

“Yes, they had attempted to rob us already but they didn’t get anything as well because we all came out in time. So we were very fortunate again.”

Delahnie Bain

“And how is everyone holding up right now?”

Voice of: Employee

“Everyone is okay, just my mom got some scratches because I had to push her through the door and she fell and got some scratches. But better she got scratched than anyone had gotten killed or something.”

Because the culprits had their faces covered, the employees could not tell if they were from the neighborhood.
