PG police say America’s Most Wanted fugitive tried to escape

Patrick Brown

America’s Most Wanted is a show that is well liked in Belize and as it now appears, several of the criminals featured on the show have headed this way for safe haven.  This coming February, twenty-seventh, Channel Five will be airing a recent episode filmed in Belize City in which a primary school student, Cree Young,  is highly praised for helping to bring down convicted child molester Robert Snyder.  Although that episode is pending, another fugitive was caught less than a week ago. On February fifth, Patrick Brown, who is wanted for murder in the United States, was caught in the south. Brown has been on the run for over ten years for murdering a man while in a jealous rage back in Boston.  When the law caught up with him, he was attempting to leave the country through the southernmost border. News Five spoke this afternoon with Inspector Andres Makin, the Deputy Officer in Charge of the Punta Gorda Police Formation about P.G.’s second ‘Most Wanted’ capture.

Via Phone: Insp. Andres Makin, Deputy O.C., Punta Gorda Police

“The American fugitive that was going in the direction of Punta Gorda, it is believed that he was going to be going to the community of Punta Gorda town. As a result of that information we got our team together and upon—we also got information that he was travelling a tinted vehicle.”

Jose Sanchez

“Was that Patrick Brown?”

Via Phone: Insp. Andres Makin

“Yes. Patrick Brown. What we did was we mounted an operation and intercepted the vehicle upon entering Punta Gorda during which time we conducted a search on the vehicle. It had three occupants and one of them was positively identified as Patrick Brown, the fugitive from the United States that has been wanted for ten years now.”

Jose Sanchez

“That’s for Murder?”

Via Phone: Insp. Andres Makin

“Yes, for murder. He was then apprehended and taken to the Punta Gorda Police Station where he was kept until Saturday, the sixth. He was escorted to Belize City, where he awaits his flight arrangements to be able to be taken back to the U.S.”

Jose Sanchez

“Did he resist? Did he seem surprised?”

Via Phone: Insp. Andres Makin

“Well he was surprised. As a matter of fact he attempted to flee, but he was caught in the process. Having been caught he didn’t put up a fight, he just gave up and came without incident after that.”

Jose Sanchez

“I know he was only in your custody for a short while, but were you able to find out how long he was in Belize?”

Via Phone: Insp. Andres Makin

“No, that wasn’t established. I was told that prior to his coming here, he was in the area of Independence. I’m not in a position to say how long he would have been in Belize.”

Punta Gorda Police officers have the bragging rights for the capture of two of America’s Most Wanted accused murderers.  In addition to Patrick Brown, in September 2009, Inspector Makin and his team caught Derrick Yancey, a Colorado sheriff’s deputy who was implicated as the trigger man in a double homicide. Yancey was caught at the Upstairs Lounge.
