Safiyyah: where to party, relax, eat in Orange Walk

Ever been to Orange Walk and not know what to do? Well, in this episode of What’s Happening Belize, Safiyyah takes us to the hotspots in the Sugar City where you can have a blast.

Hey, I’m Safiyyah and this is What’s Happening Belize and we’re doing a very special segment today in Orange Walk. We’re gonna check out all the hot spots here in Sugar City and we’re starting off today at the Nahil Mayab to check out their beautiful scenic restaurant and their great menu.

“Hello, my name is Veronica Castillo, welcome to Nahil Mayab. Nahil Mayab means house of the Mayas and this is our bar, the chocbar and the chocbar means the rain god. We have our patio and the patio is divided into two sections; we have our smoking area and we have our non-smoking area. The non-smoking area, we have a playground for the kids where they can play; a slide, a swing. For babies in months, we have the little safety and everything.”

“Good afternoon, welcome to Nahil Mayab, I’m Chef Felipe Novelo. This here what we have is one of our specials; it’s called Mayan fish. It’s wrapped up in leaf of either banana or plantain. It’s called Mayan fish because of the mixture we use which is corn meal, spices, lime juice and we do a Mayan sauce which is out of red recardo, some spices and the corn meal. You can chose whichever side dishes you want with your meal. They either give you mashed potatoes, or you can get a baked potato, garden salad, or we also have people ask for fries or any other side orders. We also have other seafood which is lobster, we have fish and we also do conch and shrimp.”

“Alright, great. We’ll see. Thank you. Wow guys, this is some really scrumptious fish. It kinda tastes like lobster or crab. It’s really good. You guys should definitely check out Nahil Mayab restaurant. Okay, let’s go off to the next spot here in Orange Walk.”

Adin Aragon, Owner Hi5 Club
“Hi, my name is Adin Aragon, I’m the owner of Hi5 Sports Pub and Club. Like the name dictates, we have two sections; the pub which is like a lounge whereby we provide excellent service, we provide food, we have karaoke on Friday and Saturday and it’s so popular in Orange Walk, that we’re also extending that to Sunday whereby we’ll be launching a karaoke competition at the ending of this month. On the other side we have Hi5 nightclub. We have weekly entertainment. Just about a week ago we had an international DJ from Cancun Mexico. We also do national DJs from Belize City, Belmopan, Cayo and so forth.”

“What do you think makes Hi5 Club one of the hottest spots in Orange Walk on the weekends?”

“We have state of the art motion lights, we always have entertainment like bubble foam bath. We’re always trying to be creative and different and that’s what makes Hi5 stand out from any other club. If you ever do come to Orange Walk, come to Hi5.”

The next spot was the Savannah Wild Splash, a great place for a family to take a swim or for friends to hang out by the poolside and have some ceviche.

“Welcome to Savannah Wild Splash, it’s a place where everyone can have fun. It has a little bit for everyone; it has a little bit for adults, for kids. As you can see, it has the waterslide for kids and for adults because adults can also come in. it has a bar inside and it has a restaurant that specializes in fast food. We have ceviche, which is very nice ceviche, the burgers, we have chicken wings which is very nice as well, our nachos. We also have some games for kids like a little arcade that we plan to expand later on. Starting Fridays, we have karaoke night and we have a personal DJ here which is DJ Tico. Saturdays we have nacho Latina and it’s just for dancing and if you want to have a dinner with your friends and family, we have here open. The pool is also open for the nights and everything. Someties we have a poolside party all day and we have the DJ outside and everything. They can just come here and relax and everything for the weekends.”

So if you want to take a trip on the weekends, you can head out to the Savannah Wild Splash and take a swim.

Now it’s time to check out the best steak in Belize voted by you; La Hacienda Steak House, located in Orange Walk on the Belize Corozal road.

“My name is Rebecca Baeza, I’m the owner of La Hacienda Steak House. On our menu we have different types of food. We have steaks, seafood, burgers, we have fish. Every Friday we do have karaoke and next month we’re going to be starting the karaoke competitions and we’re just inviting everybody to come in every Friday to join us; good plate of food, nice drink, cold beer or a drink of your choice. When we started, when we first opened our doors, we were giving the steaks for twenty-five dollars but as things have changed, everything went up so we changed our prices to thirty dollars and I guess that’s better compared to the prices in Belize City or sometimes even Chetumal. If you want to eat something good, a good steak I guess, thirty dollars is more than willing.”

“I know you don’t want to tell me all your secret seasonings, but maybe you could tell me like some or a couple of them that you use.”

“We use the lea n Perrins, tenderizer, black pepper, and complete seasoning.”

“Is there anything special that you do to make the steak soft?”

“Just the tenderizer, we use the tenderizer.”

“How long does it take?”

Chef
“It depends on how you want it. If you want it well done, you will have about fifteen minutes well done, medium; five minutes medium and ready fi go. Yoh want taste it?”

Safiyyah Mohammed
“Yeah, okay. Wow, this steak is really juicy and delicious. It definitely makes a huge difference that they marinate the meat because you can taste all the flavours all the way inside and it’s cooked perfectly and it’s delicious. You guys have to come and check out La Hacienda Steakhouse in Orange Walk, definitely the best steak in Belize.”
