P.U.P. slate for municipal elections to be led by Cecil Reneau

In political news, the temperature is expected to raise as the two main political parties go eyeball to eyeball in the race for municipal bodies. The City Council and Town Board Elections are important not only for the running of local governments in the city and municipalities around the country, but it will serve as a litmus test to verify how, in the case of the opposition, the public regards the People’s United Party that is still reeling from the crushing defeat it suffered last February. As for the United Democratic Party, which has majority control of town councils around the country and central government, voters will decide whether they are happy with the performance of the elected councils. While the U.D.P. last year concluded a hotly contested and divisive convention in Belize City, the P.U.P. has now finalized a slate which will officially be released on Friday. But we can say tonight that the Mayoral candidate for the Belize City Council will be former public officer and C.E.O. for the Ministry of Education Cecil “Chubby” Reneau. Reneau holds a PhD in education and will test his mettle against City Mayor Zenaida Moya in his first run for political office. Reneau will be joined by other P.U.P. hopefuls including Danny Madrid, Jackie Welch, Keith Acosta, Marvin Otley, Robert Henry, Bobby Cadle, Alberto Vellos and Dana Codd. Both political parties have also concluded the selection of most candidates in the district towns. The campaign for the March fourth elections from both sides is now expected to get in full swing shortly.
