Several Belize City schools closed during protest
While all the action was in Belmopan, where teachers from all branches of the Belize National Teachers Union marched on Independence Hill, in Belize City some schools closed their doors for the day while classes continued at others. Downtown at Holy Redeemer, the gates and classrooms were locked up and neither students nor teachers were in sight. Other schools, like All Saint’s Primary, were in session this morning but closed for the afternoon. We also checked Saint Mary’s School, where classes were on as per usual but only about half of the students were in attendance. It was also business as usual at St. Luke Methodist on Mahogany Street, where the students attended a full day of classes.
