Island def Jam C.E.O., L.A. Reid, signs with Shyne
A very successful music executive from New York arrived in Belize this evening. About four thirty this evening, Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid, a Grammy Award winning songwriter and record producer, emerged from his jet to meet Shyne, the rapper who has become more bankable since his deportation to Belize. Reid is responsible for signing and taking on big names such as Mariah Carey, Avril Lavigne, Toni Braxton, TLC, Usher, Ciara, OutKast, and Dido to multi-platinum album sales. He has guided artists such as Fall Out Boy, the Killers, Bon Jovi, Melissa Etheridge, Jay-Z and Ludacris. He also discovered the talent of Usher, and he is the man that will help music fans rediscover Shyne. Jamal Barrow went to prison for a shooting in a New York club, and nine years later reemerged as Moses Shyne Leviy. L.A. Reid says that he will help Shyne’s vision come to reality.

Not much has changed to be completely honest; not much has changed. People who decided to do film with their career and do comedy, it’s because they have the range in their talent to do it. It’s nothing to do with gangster rap one way or another. There are some great artists who do gangster rap and there are some great artists who decide not to. The genre that the works in doesn’t tie his hands one way or the other. Greatness can be great no matter what you do.”
It was recently reported that Shyne has signed a multimillion dollar deal with Reid’s label, Def Jam.

Go to the international press and study what Shyne has really done for the reputation of Belize. I think he’s a talented artist as well, but by way of contribution to the virtue of our country, not much. If music is our guide, may we follow the prophecy of Bob Marley.
Shyne has come a long way and from his present business moves he is very determined to be back on top . Like the saying says : ( if you can make it in NY you can make it anywhere ) As Belizeans we need to support our artist when they fall and when they rise . Our country is a jewel and we have talented people here and abroad . So with SHYNE doing something positive for his country and bringing recognition to Tourism and the Economy we need to support him on his comeback . I wish SHYNE all the best .
A real hero to Belize would reinvest in his supposed country with his successes. In the end L.A. Reid is after one thing only, not Belize’s well being, not Shyne’s success as an upright individual to his country, but after the almighty dollar. If you are going to drop names and claim that you are proud of where you are from, do it because you mean it, not because it’s putting a dollar in your pocket . . . it’s called being a “sell-out”. Inspire Belize youth with Gangster rap? Nice – and THAT’s why Belize city just keeps getting worse.

to my view is, let shyne prosper in the music. it might bring a recognition to the wolrd that from belize we have international artist also.. let him do his thing and let others know that the past is gone he wants to shine again in the music fame. Go ahead bro be a proud belizean.

Antonio L A Reid signing Shyne is a good move, but I would like for LA Reid to look inside Def Jam Digital record label at Gary Tyrone Johnson.
