San Ignacio/Santa Elena crime statistics for 2008
And while the crime statistics for 2008 are not yet available since the December numbers are still being tallied, we can share the figures for the San Ignacio/Santa Elena Twin Towns from January to November. The chart shows that there were a total of thirteen murders, sixteen attempted murders, six grievous harm, one hundred and ninety-five burglaries, eight aggravated burglaries, a hundred and ninety-four thefts, forty-nine robberies, sixteen cases of carnal knowledge, and five rapes. The figures, according to Officer in Charge of San Ignacio, Senior Superintendent Paul Wade, were relatively low, especially leading into the recent holidays.
Supt. Paul Wade, O.C., San Ignacio
“We had a lot of patrols out utilizing members of the San Ignacio formation and volunteer special constables. As I said, I think that we are preventing these crimes quite a bit. However, as you are aware, we cannot stop every incident. When it occurred, then we should respond efficiently and effectively to deal with it and that is what we are doing. I would like to assure the public that we—particularly in San Ignacio and Santa Elena—that we will continue to step up our patrols, continue our patrols using all the resources that we have including all our special constables that have been volunteering along with us all through this season and we’ll be able to minimize crime.”
We are anticipating the remainder of the statistics for the other five districts, the cayes and rural communities to become available shortly but not to pre-empt the final figures from the cops, our records do show an active year for criminals.
