Teen shot by notorious criminal

Story PictureThe shooting incident on Curl Thompson Street was not the only one that occurred on January second. After seven p.m. Friday night, a seventeen year old young man was shot when he went over to a friend’s home to play a video game by a familiar offender who was thought to be behind bars. Justin Roches of Mayflower Street was shot on Louis Street in St. Martin De Porres area. Eyewitnesses say almost as soon as Roches entered the friend’s home, twenty one year old Kareem Smith and twenty year old Kenroy Humes pulled him out into the yard, beat him in the face with a chrome gun and that is when it is alleged that Smith shot Roches to the right side of his abdomen. A neighbor on Louis Street related the incident.

Voice of Neighbor
“Because he know my—ih mi got friends and so round yah so ih just come heng out round yah. Dat dah di only reason ih come back yah.”

Jose Sanchez
“So you were shocked that this occurred?”

Voice of Neighbour
“Yes I really shocked. Justin come around seven and ih gone hail ih friend dehn and di boys dehn come, shot ah. Dehn mi di struggle first, dehn mi di fight down deh. He get weh when dehn mi di fight den ih mi di run and den dehn shoot ah. Den ih crawl ova di house and get pan di step and ih drop den dehn put ah inna di car and ker ah dah hospital. Only dat I know.”

Jose Sanchez
“The guys that shot him, they’re known to be in trouble with law before, they have been arrested on some very serious charges. Do you think these guys should have been out?”

Voice of Neighbour
“No, and dehn do lot ah crime. I noh think dehn should ah deh. Pan my behalf, I think dat wrong; dehn shouldn’t ah mi deh out cause dehn done di do crime already so.”

Roches is in stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. The pellet exited the right side of his lower back. If the name of the alleged shooter, Kareem Smith, sounds familiar it is because he has had several run-ins with the law. Smith, a resident of Junesville, is facing charges of conspiracy in connection with the grenade that exploded, killed one and injured eleven persons on Mayflower Street on May nineteenth, 2008. And on September twenty-ninth, 2008 Smith while on remand for that grenade incident, he was taken to court where he was found guilty and fined ten thousand dollars for keeping a Walter brand point three eighty pistol without a gun license. The police say that Smith may have gotten bail for one of the offences but are surprised also to find out that he is loose on the streets.
