Website to honour memory of murder victims

Yolanda Schakron

Yolanda Schakron

The unrelenting persistence of Yolanda Schakron to keep alive the memory of her murdered nephew, Chris Galvez, has taken another turn.   Schakron has now created an opportunity for families of other murder victims to join her quest.  Together with activist, Erwin X, she is about to introduce a website called Peace and Justice for All to highlight the stories of their departed loved ones.  That aside, Schakron is also staging a rally against violence.  She says it’s the least she can do not only for her nephew but for those who have endured similar pains from losing loved ones to violence.

Yolanda Schakron, Chris Galvez’ aunt

“I did it because I got to the point where I got tired of seeing the pain of mothers and it hit home with Chris and I realize as mothers come to me, they have nowhere to vent their frustration.  They have no one to turn to and I thought well Chris was a kind person and I’ll do this in his memory and it’s not only for Chris, but for everybody who has pain, hurt because of the loss of a loved one. The families can send in any information they have, they can send photos, they can put the stories of their family members who’ve been murdered, just basically for justice for all the unsolved crimes.  It’s just basically for the people to come together and start opening their mouths and not be afraid. And I’m doing this for the Belizean people and I just want their support.”

Marion Ali

“How can they support you?”

Yolanda Schakron

“Well I just want them to continue bringing pictures here to Red House.  I want them to continue bringing their poems. I want them to come out on March twenty-first at four o’clock for the peace rally so that we can be noticed that the leaders, the Police Department will see that we are serious about what we are trying to do. We are trying to fight for justice, for no corruption, for transparency in the department.  We want the crimes to stop.”

Erwin X, Activist

“We’re going as far back as Sheldon Flowers that was killed in Barry Bowen’s building so many years ago, Jackie Malic, Sherilee Nicholas, Jay Blades, Erica Wills, Naomi Hernandez and the recent faces and brothers that have gone and it has an area for blogging, it has a secure log in area where people could go and look at restricted information then it will serve as a platform for people regionally and internationally to dialogue with us, to share information and then to fight for justice, to fight for peace and to showcase the atrocities of the streets in Belize and in the injustices at all levels. It will also work as a platform to educate our young people because we have poetry in it, we have a tribute to Ms. Felix as one of the Founders of Mothers Organized for Peace, and it will be a way to continue this fight and this struggle for better for all of us.”

i like that idea and should be named ” unsolved crimes in Belize ” for the shame of the law inforcement authorithy to be viewed worldwide. Keep up the idea Mrs. Yolanda.

  2. David Logan says:

we also need to put something out there for all the corrupted cops in our country… put pictures of all of them up, so Belizeans home and abroad can know who to trust.

  3. Alvira Clark says:

Yes, A Web site should be set up reminding everyone who has been murdered, TELL THE PUBLIC TO REPORT CRIMES AND APPARENT COVER-UPS, A list and pictures of most wanted, pictures of missing persons and etc. When crime is posted and kept in the public eye people are more inclined to take an interest. In a Country the size of Belize a single newspaer printing can be produced and sold at a resonable price to keep all the public informed. Yes every complaint concering a police officer should be printed and later if a conviction is made that should also be known to the public. AN INFORMED PUBLIC WOULD MAKE A GREAT IMPROVEMENT, A BOLDER PUBLIC, MORE INCLINED TO HELP PUT A STOP TO THE OUTRAGIOUS AMOUNT OF CRIME IN THE COUNTRY OF BELIZE. SET UP TIP LINES SO PEOPLE CAN MAKE COMPLAINTS AND REPORTS. INVESTIGATE THREATS, TAKE THREATS OF BODILY HARM SERIOUS. MOST PERSONS ARE KILLED BY PEOPLE THEY KNOW AND PRIOR THREATS HAVE BEEN MADE.

  4. John says:

The problem here is our judicial system and not the cops.

  7. Leidi Hall says:

i think that corrupted cops should locked up . I am the sister of Alden Hall he was kidnap in OW and all police did was just pushing my Mom around and had the Murderers in the police vehicle up and down cause they were been paid off by the same people that made the crime .. The same police were laughing of us when on the court day the people were just charge conspiracy to commit kidnap ….. They are walking free and my little brother had not been found because of corrupted police.

  8. Rose says:

Is it possible for you to (or anybody else) point me to the least expensive website to order flowers? All the pages I have discovered charge too much for delivery.

  9. scar says:

  10. Finding the right plants for almost any occasion is difficult. When I had been acquiring flowers with regard to Mother’s Day i had to spend more than an hour or so to pick exactly what arrangment my own mom would like finest.
