Youth disappears after allegedly being shot by officer

There are two sides to a story, but first the version of a mother who is appealing to motorists on the Boom/Hattieville Road to be on the lookout for her son who went missing last night after he was allegedly shot by police.  According to Leila Williams, her two sons, twenty-eight year old Denroy Williams and twenty-five year old Micah Williams went  along with a friend, Shawn Whittaker to view a piece of land on the Boom/Hattieville Road when they became the subject of a hot police pursuit around ten on Tuesday night.  Williams called News Five to her residence on Raccoon Street where she gave her side of things.

“Last night my son dehn di come from wah place weh dehn gone, gone si weh dehn get wah piece ah land up di road.  Dehn gone from yesterday but dehn done late and when dehn di come five ah di policeman dehn weh always di harass my son si dehn di pass gwein through Boom Road and dehn start to shoot pan dehn. Shoot mi son, I tell yoh big gun pan dehn because di young man weh lay down eena di back ah di vehicle seh he couldn’t even do nothing.  All weh he cudda mi do dah lay dong flat.  Ih Ms Williams I noh know why dehn police di shoot we.  We just pass ah deh jus start to open fire pan we.  Well he, di young man Whitaker and my next son jump out ah di vehicle ah dehn gone dah bush. Now when dehn ketch my next son weh mi deh wid dehn, dehn seh how dehn got dehn hold fi drug trafficking.  How dehn wah got dehn hold fi drug trafficking?  Dehn seh my son mi di shoot dehn first wid gun.  My son can’t shoot no police wid gun cause my son noh do no police nothing.”

“I noh know which part ih deh.  Di police dehn shoot ah eena ih back.  But di young man weh mi deh wid ah seh ih definitely get shot because ih tell dehn wen ih jump out ah di vehicle ih seh “Bway Whitaker I get shot eena mi bak.  Only di young man weh mi deh eena di vehicle long wid deh come dis morning six o’clock, he manage to escape.”

“So they all abandoned the vehicle?”

“Yes dehn got it right now eena station yard cause I gone check it. Di  glass weh yoh pull, di policeman dehn got dat shot up.  Den dehn got lotta holes eena di vehicle.  Di police come yah bout half an hour ago and see di young man dah mi house and ih seh “you let’s goh, you mi deh wid dehn last night”.  Soh I tell di policeman how you know dat he mi dehn wid deh.  Unu must do something wrong fi know dat dis lee bwai mi deh wid dehn. And people, when I gone, seh di seh dat deh hear di gunshot, from dog dehn got eena di bush after dehn di try ketch dehn.  I went to the Police Station this morning because my next son was in the vehicle with them and the policeman tell me they don’t charge my son yet for drug trafficking.  So I tell ah den weh unu got ah lock up yah fah? Di next one weh sell tamales fi me, yes, dehn got he hold deh. Soh I tek a walk and I see di pickup eena station yard, di same pickup, dehn shoot up di pickup Miss, my son pickup, dehn got it shoot up.  Dah wah Ford, green wid red piece eena di front.  If my son mi di shoot afta di police fi dehn vehicle noh muss mi wah damage?  Nothing happen to fi dehn vehicle.”

But while that is Williams’ version, police claim that they received a tip of a suspicious green and red pickup with three occupants heading from Belmopan towards Hattieville.  They set up a checkpoint at the Boom/Hattieville roundabout but when the vehicle reached the spot it sped past, almost knocking down an officer.  The police further claimed that near the Hattieville Cemetery, one of the occupants opened the back window of the vehicle and fired at them with what appeared to be an AK-forty-seven rifle.  That was when they say they responded with fire and Micah Williams and Shawn Whittaker escaped from the vehicle. But they arrested Denroy Williams who stayed at the scene. This is not the first time that Micah nor his mother, Lelia have made the news.  On July thirtieth of last year Lelia was charged with Drug Trafficking and Possession of Controlled Drugs after a police raid in her yard yielded ten pounds of weed.  Her son, Micah was charged the same day for Damage to Property and Wounding of his girlfriend, Sandra Thompson.
