Viewers respond to question on crime

And our question to viewers on Thursday was: “Do you think G.O.B. should invest more to solve crime? Most persons who responded thought definitely so. One participant thought that that GOB should invest more in crime prevention because children are afraid to go to school.  While another touched on the issue of tourism saying “we can’t bring tourists to a country in such political turmoil and the streets are not safe to walk.  And on our e-poll, eighty-two percent also thought that government needs to spend more money to solve crime. from all indications this government is not doing even nearly what is sufficient to fight the wave after wave of violent crimes that have flooded the streets of Belize. It seems paralized and weak in combating the laws of the jungle that have most certainly been the order of the day. It should be obvious to those in authority that unless more funds are invested in education, crime prevention and crime detection, we have’nt seen the worst of how things can truely get. I really don’t know what it’s going to take now for those responsible for correcting this matter to get up off their back sides, take the bull by it’s horns and DO SOMETHING!!

Per Channel 5’s previous poll, most viewers/readers do not want the government to raise taxes, but yet, they want them to invest more in crime.

Where do they expect the government to find that money?
Maybe instead of sales tax or VAT, we should just call it Security/Police Tax.

The question in solving crimes is, in my opinion a statment that looks at finding out who committed the crime. I feel that the questions should be should government invest more in crime prevention not in crime solving.

  4. OriginalWoman says:

DEFINITELY YES!!!! THE GOB SHOULD DO INVEST MORE TO PREVENT CRIME. THE FIRST STEP IS TOWARD EDUCATION. INVEST MORE IN IMPROVING THE EDUCATION SYSTEM AND MAKING IT AVAILABLE TO AL L FOR FREE!!! EDUCATION IS THE KEY OUT OF POVERTY AND A DEFINITE AID IN REDUCING CRIME!!!!

  5. Good post, thanks
