Harold Crooks flees from Jamaica

Harold Crooks, the man who wrote the famous Crooks Report for the Belize Police Department, is still in hiding. On Tuesday, we reported that Crooks was wanted by law enforcement in Jamaica for sex related offences and today it is now known that Crooks has absconded from the island. Today’s issue of the Jamaica Observer confirms that Crooks is no longer in Jamaica and in an interview, his attorney Vincent Wellesley said that Crooks told him on Tuesday that he will not return to Jamaica. His reason for not going back is that he has no faith in the Jamaican justice system. Wellesley said Crooks maintains his innocence but said that he is an old man and that if he is convicted he will die in prison. Crooks is the former Island Special Constabulary Force Commandant for Jamaica. Jamaican police launched a manhunt for him on Saturday after Crooks failed to meet with investigators at the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse on that island. Jamaican police are seeking Crooks on allegations that he and another man sexually assaulted an under-aged girl. But he reportedly fled Jamaica exactly one week ago on March seventeenth. Crooks’ list of credentials are long including a stint as Lecturer at University of West Indies and former Head of Operations Analysis and Legal Affairs Unit at the Jamaica Constabulary. Earlier in his career he worked at the United Nations Institute for Prevention of Crime and Treatment of Delinquency and has written several papers on criminal justice and ways of improving the system. His most recent job was a correspondent on a popular radio programme in Jamaica. He was in Belize in 2008 when he was commissioned to do an evaluation of the police force.
How can a man that has been a part of the legal system for so long finally come to grips with this reality.
All of a sudden he has no faith in the legal system that he once was a part of.
Sometimes we fail to realize that the same knife that stick the sheep will stick the goat.
Another example is today I defend you as an attorney; tomorrow I am a high ranking minister advocating for amendments to the laws to put you away for life.

Wake up Belize what happen to background check.Belizeans can’t go to Jamaica and hold any kind of position in less than two weeks.
Crooks made a lot of good points on how to improve the police department….UNFORTUNATELY HE FORGOT TO MENTION HOW TO ROOT OUT CORRUPT COPS !!!! I guess he had a hidden agenda lol hahahahaha
It seem like in Belize a person is not inocent untill proven guilty.I am not taking sides, but the system that I know is a person is only guilty when a court says he is guilty, and not before.Everything is alledged untill proven in court

I guess the class that was given to the Police Department by Crooks made name more crooked.This guy did made changes to the Belize Police Department however what kid of change did he made?I am sure it wasn’t positive change.

O.J Simpson had run and still get off fi murder.It just depend on your defence team.The proof of guilt is not on the defence, but it is on the prosecuter.The court of public opinion and the court of law is two different thing.A lot of cases got kick out of court because the prosecuting team did not present a strong case.
John Boy/Carson: You know money talk in every situation my Bwai.This man Crooks was a part of the system which means that he has affiliationf with people in places.This guy was in Belize lecturing for approximately six months and no one knew he was a crook.Come on Belize this man’s name should have gave you guys a clue.

old man seems like he knows what the jails are like in Jamaica..sad indeed, if innocent hope he gets it all cleared. If guilty…hopefully they catch up to him.

Allot of people really don’t know Mr.Crooks. They hear his accomplishments but don’t know anything about the man. He has been fighting police corruption and unfair practices by the Jamaican judicial system from day one. he has many enemies in high places that want to see him fall. they have never been able to touch him until now…I think it was a set-up…sweeten up the lion with thoughts of fancy in his old age and when he takes the bait, catch him and hang him and make an example of him for knowing too much….This man is a threat to the wicked…. I’ve seen 80year old men with young teenage girls in Jamaica and they still walk free and my friends grandfather who died at 78 just had a baby with a 19 year old girl he had a 4 year relation ship with ….the corrupt system is making the young girls lust for money. Jamaica is not for jamaicans anymore it is for the greedy and foreign investments…i live abroad and my house is the same price as a house in Jamaica and I make over 60,000 U.S. a year. How much does the average Jamaican make? if the allegations are true the man is wrong …but he is wrong via social norm not via law.
