Activities celebrating Women’s Month 2010 wind down this weekend with an all day expo that promises to showcase the talents and handicraft of women from the Belize District. The month of activities was packed and one of the main features was the graduation on Wednesday of forty-seven women who took up training in an initiative called women in polices. The closing event is being organized by the Women’s Department and according to Jewel Crawford it promises to be loads of fun for the entire family.

Jewel Crawford, Human Development Coordinator

“We are having a Women’s Group Expo.  It will be held at the Constitution Park this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Women’s groups from throughout the Belize District, Hattieville, Maskall, and among others will be displaying and selling locally made products such as jams, they have bags prepared, hats, different items and they will be affordable. Throughout the course of the day we will also have different partners who will be selling items as well, different women’s groups.  It’s a collaboration but it’s coordinated by the Women’s Department so we want to encourage families to come out and to support these women and to experience and to get a taste of what these women do.”

Any form of entertainment for families?  I know you mentioned there will be certain activities and certain items on sale, will there be any form of musical entertainment or what have you?

Jewel Crawford

“Well we will have music and there will be face painting for children.  I also forgot to mention too that there will be manicures for ten dollars. So it is reasonable and I guess you just have to come out and see on Saturday what we have.”

Crawford says the Women’s Department is pleased with the outcome of coordinated efforts for activities held countrywide in honor of Women’s Month.
