Female chain-snatcher charged with theft
Home invasions and robberies are on the increase, in particular at this time of the year in the old capital. And now it appears that women have joined the ranks of the opposite gender in committing these crimes. Sherian Tracy, a twenty year old babysitter of Hibiscus Lane who ripped a chain off a woman’s neck pleaded guilty to a charge of Theft when she appeared today in the Magistrates’ Court. Magistrate Albert Hoare fined her fifteen hundred dollars and gave her until January thirtieth, 2009 to pay. If she does not, Tracy will spend one year behind bars. The incident occurred around one-thirty on the afternoon of Monday, December fifteenth. Edwina Logan told police that she was walking on Princess Margaret Drive towards E.P. Yorke High when Tracy, who was riding a bicycle, came from the opposite direction and snatched her gold chain worth three hundred dollars, from around her neck. Police investigation into the incident led them to J.E.C. Pawnshop where Logan’s chain was recovered. When police interviewed the person who pawned the chain he gave police a statement in which he said he got the chain from Tracy.
