Belize Bank Action plan loans promotion gives to consumers
The economic hard times is stressing out Belizeans across the land so every penny counts. And if you are lucky to win a prize, then all the better. This morning News Five caught up with a raffle organized by the Belize Bank that had at least four winners in a celebratory mood because it gives them access to money, a vacation or household appliances.
Misty Michael, Marketing Manager, Belize Bank
“ Today’s action plan raffle was the culmination of a yearlong Action plan loans promotion. We began the promotion back in 2009. We’ve had two raffles prior to this; one in August and one in December and today’s raffle we had four prizes. The first prize is a vacation get away for four to San Pedro, second prize is a home theatre system, third prize is an appliance package and the consolation prize was a five hundred dollars savings account.”

Who were today’s winners?
Misty Michael
“The first prize went to Arzueta Castellanos—we’re trying to find out where this person is from—second prize was Ramon Matus Junior from San Ignacio, third prize was Lionel Eck from Belmopan and the consolation prize went to Elsie Dyer of Belize City.”

And how did these persons become a part of this raffle?
Misty Michael
“To be eligible to win in this raffle persons had to have applied for a loan between April and March of this year and for every thousand dollars that they borrowed they got one ticket to enter into the raffle and the customers who had borrowed earlier in the year, their tickets went back into the raffle as well so they had more than one chance to win.”

What was the aim of this raffle?
Misty Michael
“The aim was just to encourage customers to come in and to borrow. It was just an extra incentive and the action plan loan is a consumer loan and it’s a very flexible loan. It’s for any consumer purpose that you can pretty much think of.”
It is good that the bank is encouraging consumers to borrow but at the same time hope they minimize their risk so as not to be like the banks here in the United States cause there is no government bailout from the government of Belize. We can’t afford it
