Suspects in Scotia Bank heist and murder captured!
It is about thirty hours since the murder and daring robbery at the Scotiabank Branch in Spanish Lookout and police have already made some progress in cracking the case. Five robbers entered the bank after eight Tuesday morning and got away with a large sum of money from the bank and a customer. A K.B.H. Security was killed and two customers were wounded. So far police are looking for two suspects from San Pedro and have recovered the getaway vehicle. News Five’s Marion Ali has been following up this story.

San Ignacio police investigating the case say they located the white Suzuki sidekick that they believe was used as the getaway vehicle in Tuesday morning’s murder and robbery at the Spanish Lookout. The vehicle was discovered in the Valley of Peace area, just past Belmopan. During the hold-up, thirty two year old Steven Lopez, the KBH security guard who was dispatched to the bank, was shot dead by one of the robbers as he tried to run for help at the nearby police station. A second guard, Theodoro Dano, was forced at gun point inside the bank while the bank manager and the employees were taken by force to the vault where the robbers stole three hundred thousand dollars. Upon their escape, the robbers also held up a customer, Lizburn Andrews, who had just driven into the bank’s compound. He was robbed of ten thousand dollars.
Meanwhile police are looking for two men who live in San Pedro. Police Press Officer, Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood urges the public to help police in locating these men.
Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer
“They are also looking for Gabriel Salazar and Alexander Edwards who we believe are armed and extremely dangerous. We know that these men are from a San Pedro address so we’re asking the public if you know where these men are or can help us in any way to locate these men, call the nearest police station. Do not try to approach these men because we know they are armed and extremely dangerous.”
One of the gunmen who was reportedly shot by a police officer on the scene remains at large. Marion Ali for News Five.
And in an update to the Spanish Lookout robbery and murder, two of three men who were on the run, have been apprehended. Latest reports to our newsroom are that Gabriel Salazar and Alexander Edwards, who are suspects in Tuesday’s heist which netted the thieves more than three hundred thousand dollars, are now in police hands. The men, both of San Pedro, are believed to have worked along with others to pull off the daring robbery.
New Poll Do you agree that Spanish people from San Pedro should be profiled before visiting Spanish Lookout Or entering a Scotia Bank?
question Why no mug shots of suspects, when Belize City resident of “dark complexion” .
How will the people know who these criminals are if pictures of them are not posted for the public to see?
Look like life on the islands are not that great after all..
“We know that these men are from a San Pedro address”….look at these guys and tell me if they look like San Pedranos?? and then we get vex when Patty and now Manuel voice their desperation in what the island has become……while they have gone that way, I pity Caye Caulker that seems to be going in the same direction.
Congrats to Belize Police , a job well done.
Sugarboy, what do “San Pedranos” look like?
I can describe a profile of what they look like, but this would cover the entire fraction of the mix-Latino’s everywhere in Belize.
I guess by that rationale, I’m not either. I wonder if my parents know???
I pity Belize, it seem to be going in the same negative direction as Haiti.
It will be a job well done when these hooligans gvie up the other suspects and also when they are all up at hattieville for 25-life!!!
I don’t believe that Hon. Heredia meant to discriminate:
Is simple , look around yourself and tell me who are the ones committing crimes, rapes etc. perhaps it would also be great that a research be done to have solid answer as to which race commits the more crime in Belize. I also think that foreigners should have it a little difficult to enter Belize, many of them are illegal here in Belize and nothing is done about it.
Why picture of these men can’t be shown on TV or newspaper? Don’t you think it will help viewers to identify them and easier for police to apprehend them?
see!!bway dis dah lone nonsense, sometimes I have to agree with Mr Heredia and Patty Arceo, again it’s our black brothers, see! so who is to blame but them, they alone chose to do all this bad acts and then expect human right to jump in for them, Look GOB change the law and HANG them BWAY, they no want nothing, I congratulate the police for a job well done, now lets see how justice will take its course, and you know what there is a curse in any LAWYER who takes up this case, SHAME on those lawyers who defend wicked men like these one, money is the root of all evil,
JESUS CHRIST WILL SAVE THIS COUNTRY IF IT’S PEOPLE HUMBLE THEMSELVES TO HIM, I AM ASKING THE GOB TO TAKE A DAY FOR PRAYER, ASK ALL THE CHURCHES OF THE COUNTRY TO JOIN IN PRAYER FOR THIS LAND, ONE DAY JUST ONE DAY AT LEAST AND LET SEE OUR GOVERNMENT LEADERS IN THEIR KNEES ASKING GOD FOR THIS COUNTRY.
MACAL RIVER, I SO WHOLE-HEARTEDLY AGREE WITH YOU IN THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT. (JESUS CHRIST WILL SAVE THIS COUNTRY IF IT’S PEOPLE HUMBLE THEMSELVES TO HIM, I AM ASKING THE GOB TO TAKE A DAY FOR PRAYER, ASK ALL THE CHURCHES OF THE COUNTRY TO JOIN IN PRAYER FOR THIS LAND, ONE DAY JUST ONE DAY AT LEAST AND LET SEE OUR GOVERNMENT LEADERS IN THEIR KNEES ASKING GOD FOR THIS COUNTRY).
JESUS IS THE ONE AND ONLY WAY IN WHOM THERE IS ANY HOPE FOR OUR NATION. CHRISTIANS AT HOME AND ABROAD NEED TO JOIN IN A CONCERTED EFFORT TO FAST AND PRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY. I CERTAINLY AM PRAYING, AND WILL BEGIN TO DEVOTE MYSELF TO A FAST AS I CONTINUE TO INTERCEDE. “RETURN TO RIGHTEOUSNESS, BELIZE!!!”
Hello???????? They said San Pedro address!!!!!!! Am a 100% sanpedrana and there is no way those are sanpedranos!!!!!!!! They are people that came from elsewhere and when asked they like to say they are from San Pedro!!! Also bare in mind that alot of Belizeans go live the states and when asked they say they come from the USA. So please get u stats rite!!!!!!!!!!!
The two suspects are from San Pedro.I taught that San Pedro did not have criminals.Maybe the rest of Belize should let people from San Pedro fill out questioner when they visit their area. You could never tell what are their intentions. They might want to rob banks, or kill security guard.Sugarboy should change his name to fool, fool boy.I want him to describe what person from San Pedro to look like.I can not tell the difference between a person from San Pedro, or other parts of Belize.I can’t even tell the difference between a latino from Belize or across the boarder. The do not have a sign on thei forehead,so how do you know.
I am not racist infact all my friends are creoles but it is dem that are killing one another and robbing everyone with guns…. thats the only way they get what they want….. WELL not me i nuh have to license for a gun but trust me i will kill dem btches if them hurt my family or try rob me…. i just going dah back fi unlicensed gun an ammo den will get off in a couple years or less…. We people have to stand up for our rights an run dem pssy outta the wholes dem di hide inna…..
i must agree with the prayer thing, it has been a long time since the GOB had a day of prayer, it seems that they only turn to God when a hurricane is coming, we should never leave Jesus as our last resort, he should be our first choice. and i must also agree with the issue with which race commits the most crime, isn’t it obvious? But then again….we also shouldn’t condemn them all for what some do. And GOB should make entering belize a little bit more difficult cause indeed we have to many aliens coming in and taking our land and committing hideous crimes in this BEAUTIFUL jewel of ours
The time for praying has long passed. We Belizeans must put it into our own hands and TOGETHER we can make the country a better place. You do not have to be a Christian to fight for the common good.
Refering to statement by Macal Rivera: I can’t understand how the minister of education picked up the issue of corporal punishment over the issue of hanging or death penalty as it’s better known. I think that with all the crime and violence getting more out of proportion every day, death penalty is a topic worth more our time discussing right now. And there are a ton of other more important issues such as government corruption, lawyers getting rich for bailing out these criminals, the border issue, LAND GRABBING, the ECONOMY – jobs and poverty which are the root to more violence to come. We definitely need to set a day of prayer – ALL OF BELIZE in BELMOPAN for a FULL DAY of worship – ALL RELIGIOUS DENOMINATIONS.
Goverment needs to take a diff. stance: instead of criticizing each others’ decisions, they need to setup a commitee made up of both PUP and UDP cabinet ministers and private and public sector reps to discuss all major issues affecting the country and come up with BI-PARTISAN solutions. RESPECT.
I think the new should have said who they have hold for it not only the other at large it cause its the Dirty police them again. Deal with those police hard they are the law to be doing these stuff bring it out cause it is a police did the setting up……………… G.O.B do your homework and minister of security……… Its an innocent person got caught………. They need to be killed same way they are killing out here to be a police come on so who will protect us no one ….
I saw the pics of the suspects from san pedro and they sure looked hispanic to me. I could be wrong but like most belizeans with a brain already know, criminals come in all races. Too bad the bigots among us pick the easiest excuse (race) to blame for society’s problems.
I wholeheartedly disagree with “defensive for all” and “macal rivera” on the issue of colour being related to crime.
Quite frankly I think this is a perfect case of poetic justice playing out before all our eyes. It wasn’t a month ago that Hon. Heredia and Latino San Pedranos were crying to keep the “negritos” out their private, drug and prostitution infested cesspool of an island, only for the victim of the latest horrific crime to be a Creole man and the perpetrators to be Hispanics from the so-called “isla bonita”. Perhaps it’s us mainlanders that should be putting up profiles of those coming in from the islands.
Just for the record, I believe all criminals should have their photos made known to the public regardless of who or where they come from. I ‘m not Creole, but I am 100% Belizean and detest it when when short-sighted people narrow all our ills down to ethnicity or a lack of religiosity.
we need short, medium and long term measures to tackle the crime in Belize….Many will disagree but we need alternatives and not only criticize:
Short-Term:
1.) Marshall Law, Curfew: people cannot be on the streets after 9:00pm
2.) Random searches for suspected individuals
3.) Shoot to Kill when a criminal caught on the act is shooting back to security forces
Medium-term:
1.) More BDF and officers on the streets patrolling
2.) Belize need undercover Security Officers on Strategic Location
Long-term:
1.) Reinstate “Capital Punishment”
2.) Have social programs to prevent teenagers in getting involved in gangs activities
3.) When convicted, the prisoner should be forced to work to win his/her food
I am a resident of spanish lookout and am believing for a change in our country. All authoruty has been given to us christians!!
Come join us for an afternoon of prayer right here in Spanish Lookout. At our beautiful Countryside Park. The theme is ‘Jesus is Lord of Belize’. It will start at 3:00 p.m. There will be a message by Scott Stirm, worship, dances by youth….lets do this for the king!!
THEY WERE CAUGHT, GOOD JOB FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT,
NOW MS. DPP
HOW ABOUT MAKING AN EXAMPLE OUT OF THESE MURDERERS FOR THE OTHER
CRIMINALS, MAKING SURE THEY REMAIN BEHIND BARS FOR A VERY,
LOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG TIME!!!!!
EVEN IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANY WITNESSES WHO WILL COOPERATE WITH YOU
(UNDERSTANDABLY SO, SINCE YOU OBVIOUSLY DON’T HAVE AN ADEQUATE ,OR ANY,
WITNESS PROTECTION PROGRAM) …
HOPEFULLY, YOU STILL HAVE THE VIDEO OF THE CRIME TAKING PLACE!!!
We should be glad if the thieves are been caught. But how are we so sure that its those 2 already in custody, part of the robbery?. if so, they should be taught a lesson. have them work to support the wife left behind.
Christ’s Kid, your heart is certainly in the right direction, but remember Governments who are led by their own conviction rather than God’s guidance will never have their prayers answered. Sincerity of heart and an urging to submit to God’s leadership is essential. Otherwise, what was meant to be ..will be….
response to 5is_Belize’s foxnews you don’t you know that Salazar can also be a non hispanic name in Belize can someone please tell this fool that Edwards is not a spanish name
Macal i disagree with you. Blacks aren’t the only ones committing crimes in Belize. But for some reason, we only hear about the crimes committed by the blacks most of the times and that is why we are under the assumption that blacks are criminals. There are numerous cases that are hienoust that are committed by Spanish and other people of other culture that are not reported on the news. Perhaps, you should take a look at Corozal court records and you will now exactly what i am talking about. You dont even feel safe taking a taxicab in Corozal.
You want to know who a San Pedrano is? A San Pedrano can be of any color or ethnicity. A true San Pedrano is the person who works hard to better that great community. Why are other communities in Belize so jealous of San Pedro? Because San Pedro has hard working productive individuals. Yes we have the best work force in Belize that is why we are number one in tourism. So you are a San Pedrano if you come here..work hard..and better this great town. If your intentions are not that then more than likely you will not be well received. Anyone who commits crimes or breaks the law should be punished. Mr. Heredia spoke out of comment ..people no want to see that..they want to see the bad..not the good…think about that…
I see alot of people talking about 100% San Pedrano! Most of them are just aliens who couldn’t make a life in their own country and trying to get a name for themselves, which Belize got sorry for them and accepted them. Remember your roots and where your parents come from!! Remember after all, Mr. Heredia is not an educated man. Belize needs more educated politicians!!!
SanPedrano, i never once saw in your lil comment that you stated that a San Pedrano is a Belizean, not that strange isn’t it? Since you all think your not Belizeans anyways..right? You San Pedranos think too highly of yourselves..unu head swell…..for what? i have no idea. Being a San Predrano has nothing to do with working hard…it’s just a state of mind you all have and so desperately want to believe is true. So what?…you all believe no one else in the entire country of Belize are not hard working as people well? Ha! Everyone works hard on a daily basis to sustain themselves and their families. But you know what…the tourism industry you all are so proud and boastful about isn’t doing so well at this point in time because of the bad economy….and it may even get worse. So if i were you i’d shut my mouth and pray to God Amighty that more local Belizeans “Creoles/Undesired” pay a visit to your pathetic island to spend some of their hard working dollars to keep you all afloat. And as for minister Heredia? he should be tied to a pole and flogged publicly for those rasicial statements he uttered on national tv which he refuses to retract to this day. It wan’t surprising to hear residents of San Pedro are big in the news comitting bank robbery and murder…..do you think they are Creoles or SanPedranos? Actually, none of us are really jealous of San Pedro one bit but we do feel some sympathy towards your ignorant way of thinking.
