Professionals bridge the political divide for relevant discourse
If you ask, many people, will tell you they don’t trust politicians, no matter what color they represent. The forces are polar and both parties are regarded as undoing whatever progress is made by previous governments once they get into office. But you’ve often heard that behind closed doors, members of the two major political parties, People’s United Party and the United Democratic Party are friends. Recently you may have noticed that two attorneys have been making regular appearances in joint interviews. On Wednesday, News Five’s Jose Sanchez asked Hubert Elrington and Arthur Saldivar what was the motivation behind their pairing.
Jose Sanchez
“Gentlemen, you have both represented opposing forces, political sides. This grouping that we’re seeing as in the previous interviews, where is this coming from?”
Hubert Elrington, Attorney

Hubert Elrington
“Well we have a group of lawyers and there are other professional people, trained people who have come to the conclusion that we have given the government enough time to get its house in order. This government is running a disorderly house, a seriously disorderly house. It is time the government be put on notice that it has to put its house in order. We are not going to tolerate it much longer.”

Arthur Saldivar
“The people of Belize require a certain level of maturity, especially among professionals. In our political discourse we have been relegated now to the rank of school children, playing in a school yard. Governance is serious business. And it requires every level head and every thinking person to come together with concrete solutions for our people, regardless of persuasion. That is where this is coming from.”
If you were watching the budget debate in the House and in the Senate, you may have noticed that both PUP and UDP representatives quoted Elrington to make attacks against the opposing parties.
