More arrests for daring robbery at Scotiabank
A group of six men and a woman has been charged in connection with last Tuesday’s deadly bank heist in Spanish Lookout. During the robbery unarmed KBH security officer Steven Lopez was mortally wounded. The robbers then turned their guns on a police officer who was stationed next to the Scotia Bank Branch. Today Police Press Officer Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood gave News Five an update on the progress of the investigation into the incident.
Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer
“We have since arrested Juan Salazar for abetment to commit robbery, Michael Rodriguez for conspiracy to commit robbery and they have additionally been charged for failure to prevent a felony. We have since arrested Frank Edwards for murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. On the fourth of April Austin Monguia, Ervin Fernandez, Lewis Hernandez and Isolina Perez have been arrested and charged for handling stolen goods. We have since recovered thirty thousand, nine hundred and sixty five dollars Belize currency and we are still looking for Gabriel Salazar, Alexander Edwards and Benjamin Peters. Salazar is believed to be of Guatemalan origin namely from the town of Melchor de Mencos.”
Six of the seven individuals charged with the crimes are residents of the Cayo District. Alexander Edwards who is on the run from police is a resident of San Pedro Town. The bank heist in Spanish Lookout has been regarded as the biggest in recent history.

With some good work from the police the thieves were caught, unfortunately the victim is still dead.
These idiots are the reason that the “death penalty” should be brought back in Belize.
They are seriously begging for it, we must meet their needs.
God is good, he brings out everything to the light, now I really hope these men and this worthless woman goes to jail forever and if there is no justice believe me, they will never live in peace again, the bible say never never have God as your enemy, and he is their enemy now for what they did, and this woman should put herselve in the shoes of Mrs Lopez and her orphan children, these people are really worthless their heart is full of evil, they better repent or it will be too late if they die in their sinful life, OH Lord I pray for the punishment they deserve, that you Lord will send destruction in their lives, for they have commited the worse crime on this nation of Belize. In Jesus name, I ask for justice that only you OH mighty God can give.
C’mon now…we need to see some faces…some pics of these criminals! We need to know who we’re looking for!!!
I would have to agree with you TR… Blast these criminals on the Media!
At last the cops finally captures Frank Edwards who have said to be the main perpetrator of the crimes happening in Toledo as well. I am a resident of Toledo and so many people have seen Frank and his brother Alexander around before the robbery and murder of Francis Johnson in Big Falls and then they were allegedly seen the night of the robbery at Cals store in San Pedro Columbia. This has not been mentioned none at all. Have the police not cracked that puzzle yet? or are they afraid to talk about it? Our Police force need a lot of training and lots more education to reach the standards of professional detectives and cops. Belize needs to do a lot more than just talking.
EVERY ONE HAS A MOTHER OR A BROTHER!! BUT HEY PUT THE ROPE AROUND THE MURDERERS NECK MAN!! 2 MUCH R… DI HAPPENED!! HELL MAN MY HOUSE BROKEN INTO WHILE ME AN FAMILY ASLEEP!!WE NEED A DEATH SQUAD MR BARROW!!TO HELL WHAT FORIGNERS SEH!! ESPECIALLY USA( IN TEXAS DEM NO PLAY) DEM GAS DEM R…!!
Will ScotiaBank help the wife and child of the mudered security guard???? does anyone knows??
Its not only the bank that should feel some sense of obligation to help the orphaned family, the security company for posting their employees at high risks places (such as banks) unarmed. On the other hand Scotiabank decided not to pay for armed guards. How can a BANK be so cheap to their employees and customers not to pay for armed forces. the unarmed security service should be banned especially for banks.
I totally agree with Rivera that Frank and Alex Edwards have been responsible for the recent crimes in Toledo. They robbed Cal, robbed another guy for weed, killed Francis Johnson and now robbery in Cayo. We saw them the day Johnson became victim and we even said they are probably running from the law. Big Falls people know them and they are wanted there for some lesson. It seems PG cops are afraid of them but I hope the heat will reach these coward bastards. If we can work for our money so can them but they want money for coke in San Pedro.
I agree with rivera. after the shooting in columbia, police reached 12 hours later at the crime scene.
MARCAL AND TO ALLL WHOM SUPPORT HIS WICKED TAUGHTS,GOD ASLO SO SAID DONT JUDGE YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS BECAUSE BY DOING THAT YOU ARE ALSO A SINNER,YOU B……. MIND OF A UDP FANATIC
I think bze needs to send peolpe to study tp be persicuters.Thats is y lawyers wins their cases so easy because persicuters are not educater they look like joke in court against a lawyer. That will be a good start.
Belize need to make law so we can sue the hell out of some of these people.
Bringing back the death penalty will not be the answer. Right now we are not even getting the bastards convicted. What we need is an complete overhaul of the law enforcement system. We need quicker response when a crime is committed, we need more scientific evidence gathering, we need trained law enforcement officers. That alone will not do it we also need citizens, mothers, fathers who are vigilent, notice whats happening around you, some times one little tip could bust a ring and it can be done even without becoming a witness at a trial. Stopping crime in Belize will have to be everyone’s business……it affects all of us.
These criminals need to be flagged and castrated in public….
