Lifeline Foundation donates to three deserving schools
The students of St. John Vianney, St. Martin De Porres and Salvation Army primary schools are the latest beneficiaries of the Lifeline Foundation. Representatives from the three schools were presented with cheques for five thousand dollars each to assist with the feeding programs in the schools. Both St. John Vianney and St. Martin De Porres have ongoing feeding programs and are struggling with its sustainability. While today’s donation will ease some of the pressure, Salvation Army Primary School is starting a breakfast program. News Five spoke to Lifeline Director, Denise Courtenay, and representatives from each school.
Denise Courtenay, Director, Lifeline Foundation
“Every year the Lifeline Foundation holds an annual black and white charity gala, which is a gala dinner and the proceeds from that dinner are what have made today possible. Also we have corporate sponsors who make donations to us and so it’s a combination of our black and white gala and our corporate and individual sponsors.”
Amelia Bencomo, Vice Principal, St. John Vianney
“It’s really a pleasure for me to receive that five thousand dollars donation. I know that it will help the school a great deal in respect to its feeding program. It will help a lot of children who are really in need of a decent plate of food that they would need to have on their tables in the afternoon, especially after classes in the morning. It’s really a great help.”
Earl Grinage, Pres, Society of St. Vincent De Paul
“I’m grateful to Lifeline Organization for assisting us with our feeding program at St. Martin DePorres School. It benefits about roughly seventy-five school children. They come from low income families, very underprivileged and it will be very good for them to have this kind of help so they can be getting a sensible meal everyday.”
Delcia Chan, Principal, Salvation Army Primary School
“We are very, very happy about it because we should have started our breakfast program already but because of financial problems we haven’t started as yet. So this comes just in time.”
Delahnie Bain
“So when will that come underway?”
Delcia Chan
“Well, since it’s already midweek we are hoping that it will be ready for Monday. We have a lot of children that really need the help in breakfast and lunch. So we also have a lunch program. So we have a lot of our children population, they really do need it.”
The foundation also presented a check to the Rotary Club of Belize as a contribution to its Gift of Life program. It will go specifically to assist Kent Vernon Flowers who is presently receiving urgent medical attention for second and third degree burns to eighty percent of his body. Lifeline’s next fundraiser will be a Brazilian themed event called “A Night in Rio”. That comes up on November sixth and will feature a Samba dance group from Brazil as well as Brazilian food, drinks and music.
