Belizean charged for Attempted Murder of UCLA student

Story PictureThe defense attorney for the Belizean who was charged Tuesday with the attempted murder of a fellow student of the University of California, Los Angeles spoke about the case today. Defense Attorney Robin B. Berkovitz was assigned to defend twenty year old Damon Thompson. She said “There is a lot of information that has yet to be presented, and it was a sad situation for all parties involved.” Berkovitz described Thompson as a hard-working biochemistry major with a clean record. Thompson is not alone, his mother flew out to Los Angeles to be with him and his father travelled to be with them from another state in the U.S. The hearing was held on Tuesday at the Airport Courthouse. He was charged today with one count of attempted murder. Thompson pleaded not guilty but was held on bail of three million U.S. dollars by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Keith L. Schwartz after prosecutors argued he was a flight risk. Court documents reveal that Thompson stabbed twenty year old Katherine Rosen five times and slashed her throat. Prosecutors said that the October eight attack was unprovoked. If convicted, Thompson could receive a life sentence with the possibility of parole.
