Multiple shootings in the murder capital

Fitzroy Yearwood

Earlier we reported on two murders but there was more violence in the streets where criminals were out playing target practice between last night and this morning. In the first shooting incident, three minors were hit with bullets while they were in a yard on West Canal just after six on Thursday evening. But this morning started with a bang… actually it started with several bangs as a gunman fired multiple shots at a fifty-one year old man. While he was not injured, another round of bullets were fired as the day got underway; this time the target was Michael Major who was injured about an hour later at around seven o’clock.  The police press officer brought us up to speed on the recent shooting spree.

Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer

“A little after six yesterday evening three minors were in a yard on West Canal socializing when a lone gunman rode up on them and fired several shots at them. All three minors received minor injuries in their hands. They were transported to the K.H.M.H. where they received treatment.  This morning Michael Major was standing at the corner of Sittee and Mahogany Streets some time after seven this morning when a lone gunman rode up and fired several shots at him injuring him in the leg. We also had another shooting at the corner of King and Amara Avenue a little after six this morning also where a lone gunman started firing at a fifty year old male that was standing at the corner. He didn’t manage to catch his target; his target escaped unhurt but in this case we do have a suspect that we are looking for and hopefully we will apprehend him soon.”

“Any suspects in any of the other shootings?”

Fitzroy Yearwood

“Well, we’re following several leads in all the shootings that happened, the murders and hopefully we will gain some closure.”

Monica Bodden, Love FM

“Do you think any of this might be gang related?”

Fitzroy Yearwood

“Well, I’m not quick to say gang related but recently we have seen a lot of senseless shootings in Belize City. Some resulted in murder and we’re not sure—we wouldn’t want to go and say that it is gang related because we don’t know the motives. When we know the motives then we would be more conclusive.”

I am confident that the police force (intelligence) will catch up with this lone shooter . it seems as though it,s the same guy. Luckily no one has been killed —-so far.

Belize is getting very dangerous. Even the cops are crooked. Who can you trust. What has this country become. I’m a Belizean/American and scared about going to my hometown to visit. It’s really sad. Youths killing youths and the poor robbing from each other. And they wonder why everyone is leaving coming to america for a better opportunity. What are the politicians doing about the crime rate in belize. Belizeans are scared to speak out because their life will be in danger. It’s really saaaaaaaaaaaad.
